“My father was made to climb a coconut tree only to be shot down like a monkey. I saw his lifeless body fall onto the ground”
Badjao is a tribal group known as sea gypsies; they live along the coastal areas of southern Philippines-Mindanao by building bamboo huts on stilts a few meters above sea level.
With the ongoing conflicts in the ARMM region, this tribal group was driven away from their villages and forced to migrate northward to Luzon. Now these sea people have turned into city dwellers trying to survive discrimination and the harsh city life as mendicants and illegal settlers. The lucky may find work with temporary and below minimum wage jobs.
